How to Prepare Your Kitchen for a Safe Move

How to Prepare Your Kitchen for a Safe Move

Packing the kitchen is one of the most challenging parts of shifting homes. With delicate glassware, bulky appliances, and food items, it needs extra care. At Moving Mart Packers and Movers, we’ve helped hundreds of families relocate safely, and here are our expert tips for packing your kitchen the right way.

1. Start Early

Begin packing your kitchen at least 3–4 days before moving. It takes longer due to the number of items and how carefully they need to be packed.

2. Sort and Declutter

Throw away expired food, broken utensils, and unused appliances. Keep only what you use regularly or plan to take to your new home.

3. Use the Right Packing Material

Use strong boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper, and newspaper. Wrap all fragile items like plates, cups, and glasses individually.

4. Pack Appliances Separately

Unplug and clean appliances like the microwave, mixer, fridge, and oven. Use their original boxes if available, or pack with plenty of padding.

5. Seal Food Items Properly

Avoid packing perishables. Pack sealed, dry food items like grains or spices in airtight containers or zip-lock bags to prevent spills.

6. Label Everything

Label boxes clearly as “Kitchen – Fragile” or “Glassware” so that our moving team knows which boxes need extra care.

7. Pack a Small Kitchen Essentials Box

Keep a small box with plates, cups, snacks, tea/coffee, and a couple of utensils for the first day at your new home.
